CARDIFF, England (Ticker) – Manchester United salvaged FA Cup success from a disappointing season on Saturday as Dutchman Ruud van Nistelrooy scored twice in a 3-0 win over Millwall in front of 71,350 fans at Millennium Stadium.

Manchester United, one of the most famous professional sports teams in the world, won the FA Cup for the 11th time and first time since 1999. United finished third in the Premier League with a 23-9-6 record and had its streak of seven straight quarterfinal appearances in the UEFA Champions League snapped with a loss to FC Porto of Portugal in March.

Millwall, which was 10th in England’s First Division, was in the FA Cup final for the first time and played a defensive-minded game.

The Lions held United scoreless until Brazil’s Ronaldo took a crossing pass from Gary Neville and tallied just before halftime.

United controlled the second half and Van Nistelrooy scored on a penalty kick in the 65th minute after David Livermore fouled Ryan Giggs.

Van Nistelrooy converted a crossing pass from Giggs in the 81st minute for the final margin.
